Does acupuncture hurt?

2

Most people are pleasantly surprised by how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles used are extremely fine much thinner than a hypodermic needle and many people barely notice their insertion. You may feel a mild sensation, a gentle warmth, or a subtle tingling, which are all signs that your body is responding.

Most patients find acupuncture deeply relaxing. It's not uncommon to drift off during a session or leave feeling a sense of ease and calm that lingers well after you've gone home.

A few simple things will help you get the most from your visit:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arms, legs, and abdomen.

  • Eat a light meal or snack beforehand. Acupuncture on an empty stomach can sometimes cause lightheadedness.

  • Arrive a few minutes early and give yourself permission to slow down.

  • Write down any questions, symptoms, or health history notes you'd like to share, your first session includes a thorough intake.

Most importantly, come as you are. There's no need to prepare anything special we'll take good care of you.

How do I prepare for my first session?

How many treatments will I need?

4

This is one of the most common questions we receive, and the honest answer is: it depends. Every person and every condition is different.

For acute concerns, you may notice meaningful relief within just a few sessions. For longer-standing or complex conditions like fertility support, hormonal imbalances, or chronic pain, a series of weekly treatments is typically recommended to build and sustain results over time.

During your first visit, Dr. Robledo will discuss a recommended treatment plan based on your specific goals and health history, and revisit it with you as you progress.

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body called acupuncture points — that lie along pathways known as meridians. In Chinese Medicine, these pathways carry vital energy (Qi, pronounced "chi") throughout the body. When Qi flows freely and in balance, we feel well. When it becomes blocked, deficient, or excessive, symptoms arise.

From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture has been shown to stimulate the nervous system, promote circulation, regulate the endocrine system, reduce inflammation, and encourage the release of the body's natural pain-relieving compounds.

These two frameworks aren't at odds they're two ways of understanding the same elegant system.

How does acupuncture work?

5

Yes. Fertility support is one of our core specialties. Acupuncture can play a meaningful role in supporting natural conception and IVF/IUI outcomes by regulating hormones, improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, and reducing the stress that so often accompanies fertility journeys.

We welcome patients at any stage whether you're just beginning to explore your options or are in the middle of assisted reproductive treatments. We're also happy to work alongside your reproductive endocrinologist or OB as part of a collaborative care approach.

What is cosmetic acupuncture and is it right for me?

7

Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural, holistic approach to skin rejuvenation that works by stimulating circulation, promoting collagen production, and addressing the internal imbalances that show up on your face.

Unlike injectables, cosmetic acupuncture works with your body's own healing intelligence and the results reflect your overall health as much as your skin. Patients often notice improvements in energy, sleep, and mood alongside visible changes to their complexion.

It's a wonderful option for those who want to age gracefully, care for their skin naturally, or address concerns like fine lines, dullness, hormonal acne, or puffiness without invasive procedures.

Results are cumulative, and a series of treatments is recommended for best outcomes.
